Chronic Disease Management

Comprehensive management of the treatment of a range of chronic diseases (diabetes, heart disease, COPD, asthma, etc) is provided by the GPs and nursing team. There are multiple forms in the health review and assessment clinical room.

We would request that you complete this at least once a year so that we may monitor your progress and arrange further follow up as required.

Antenatal Care

We provide a comprehensive service for antenatal and postnatal care. This is supported by the care provided by attached staff.

Individual roles in the provision of this care are as follows:

  • Community midwife takes the lead role in the provision of midwifery care within the practice including visiting women at home.
  • Our GPs support the midwife in this role, by providing a range of information, advice and access to treatment relating to antenatal and postnatal care.
  • Health visitors offer home-based support and aim to promote good health by providing advice, information and support relating to a range of health-related issues.

Warfarin Monitoring

The practice GPs and nurses supervise patients on warfarin treatment; arrange for blood tests and advise on blood test results and dosage. INR testing is performed on site using the INR Star System.

This allows us to provide a same day service to patients whereby they are tested and their medication dosage confirmed at the surgery during the same appointment.

Wound Management (simple and leg ulcers) and Removal of Sutures

Our practice nursing team provide for all wound management (dressings) and removal of sutures.

General Practice Nursing

Budshead Medical Practice currently have 3 Practice Nurses working throughout the week. They cover all GP Practice Nursing elements including appointments for reviews of Diabetes, COPD, Asthma, Well Woman Clinics, and Wound Care. Nursing appointments also include Childhood Immunisations, Child Health Checks and Travel Immunisations. The Nurses have a wealth of experience in supporting GP Medicine and are generally very busy in the September to January period with the inclusion of Influenza and Shingles vaccinations for all patients that meet the eligibility criteria. As part of the Nursing Team we also have 2 Healthcare Assistants who supplement the Nursing Team and offer appointments for a variety of items including samples and Phlebotomy as well as some Health Checks and minor wound care.

Push Doctor Video Consultations

We currently have 3 slots available each evening Monday – Friday for Video Consultations with a GP. These are after our closure each day (6.30pm) and are aimed at patients that may not be able to take time out from their daily routine to visit a GP in house. If you would like to book one of these appointments then please contact the practice as normal and request a Push Doctor appointment. You will then be sent a link to your mobile device and can then book the appointment.

Please be aware that these Video Consultations are recorded. You will be asked for your consent for this to happen when it comes time for your appointment. If you consent then the appointment will go ahead as planned, however if you decline then the appointment will be cancelled. The reason that they record these consultations is for Governance and Training purposes, that is the only reason. Push Doctor are the data controller and this is covered in the DPIA (data protection impact assessment) that we have with them to ensure that your data is handled properly and appropriately at all times.

Please utilise this opportunity to discuss your medical needs with a GP that fits your busy schedules. Please remember though this is in addition to normal appointments that we offer therefore there are only 3 appointments per day, they are not your usual GP. However your notes are updated after the consultation has finished.
